Easter Paramotor competition

If you were wondering why I wasn't at the Paeroas for Easter there were two reasons. First was a planned motorbike trip to the South Is, second was NZs first paramotor comp in Christchurch. No I haven't gone completely to the dark side but I have to say this comp was good fun. A little different starting and finishing every task in the same flat paddock. Quite social and definitely better for the spectators. There were 2 Australian reps and 12 Kiwis entered.

Easter at the Paeroas '10 AND NOW, REGIONAL LEAGUE!!

Yes, you lucky people it's Easter at the Paeroas time again!

AND NOW, WE ARE ALSO HOLDING A REGIONAL LEAGUE AT THE SAME TIME! Bring your gear, GPS loaded with waypoints and we will set tasks for you. This is probably the last chance to score points on the ladder for this season. Remember, your position on the ladder will be there all winter! Go for it!

Regional Competition this weekend 6 and 7 Feb

At last a weekend forecast that looks half ok. It is time to dust off the vario and other paraphenalia of xc flying and have a little competition. The Auckland Club plans to hold a Local pg comp at the local sites or at Pukemore or Te Hoe on Sat/Sun 6 and 7 Feb. Right now Pukemore looks OK but that could change so watch here for another posting on Thurs night to confirm the meeting place.
If you plan to fly in the NZ Open at Rotorua this is a good opportunity to practice or learn about comp flying.

Kariotahi site changes

For some time the club has been in negotiation with Franklin District Council and Gavin Shine (Cataways restaurant and chalets) regarding our continued use of the launch above Castaways.

Our use of the launch is assured, however there are some requirements for the access via Castaways and the use of the road. These are little different then what is our current practice.

Auckland WOF Dates for PGs

With the thermalling season starting, this is a good time to do our annual WOF checks for Auckland Club paragliders.

We encourage all pilots to do the WOF during the suggested dates, as you can help each other get through, be social and take the opportunity to learn lots about your equipment and how to look after it. These WOFs are free of charge.

Check out the Wings and Waves website for the dates.

Reserve throw evening

No sooner do we announce the AGM/Xmas BBQ/Award night than here here we are with another event!

On Sunday 15th of November, the AHGPC is having a social evening at Extreme Edge www.extremeedge.co.nz at 40 Morrin Road, Panmure from 6:30 till 9:00 p.m.

We will have a party area on a raised platform in the middle of the main climbing floor with enough space for the entire club. (It’s huge!). BYO chips, nibbles and soft drinks. You can also order Hell Pizza too. (We can get an order together for them to deliver.) Since this is a climbing zone, NO ALCOHOL. (Save it for the event on the 27th…) This will be a great night for the whole family!!

If you want to go rock climbing, the charge for one adult is $20. If we get 10 or more members who want to climb, we can get a 10% discount. (If 25 or more want to scale the walls, then we get 15% off.) If you think you will have a climb, then e-mail me so that I can get an idea of numbers.

John Burnett will be on hand to repack reserve parachutes. There will be a ceiling rope that you can clip your harness into, then swing out and deploy your reserve chute. John will be able to repack 4 chutes during the evening, for his usual professional fee. Please e-mail John to reserve a place to throw your reserve! I only have 4 spaces. If demand exceeds supply, I will ask Reuben if he will be willing to repack. Please note that you will have to pay John (or Reuben) to repack your reserve chute.

Since you don’t get a lot of practise at using this vital safety system, this is your opportunity. It might just save your life!

Annual General Meeting

Notice of Annual General Meeting

To be held at 6.30 pm, 27th November 2009,

The Loft, 4 Sir Peter Blake Parade, Bayswater, Northshore.

How do you know it’s the start of the season? It’s AGM time!!

This year we have decided to combine our Annual General Meeting and our Xmas BBQ together in to one never to be forgotten event! (Just like last year!!!).

Once again, Wings and Waves have generously offered us the use of their facilities at The Loft. It’s a great spot to have a beer and a bite while watching the sun go down.

We will kick off the evening with the AGM agenda and move on to the BBQ as soon as we have things wrapped up.

Please review the AHGPC Accounts beforehand as you will be asked to approve them at the AGM (click on the "Read more" link below and then look for the PDF document at the bottom of the page).

This year there are a couple of extra things your club committee would like you to have a say about. That is nominations for the…

  • “Flying Spirit” award for outstanding contribution by a club member to the activities of the club or in the sport of hang gliding or paragliding.
  • “Duck” (or should that be the, “oh, *uck !!” award) for the most noteworthy flying related “activity” that none of us would be proud to talk about!!
  •  Crash of the Year for …….. well, the name says it all.

Weather Stations All up and running

Weather Stations All up and running

After may trips to moirs, dills and kario we have finally got all weather stations running and giving correct data.

A number of us have spent many hours in all sorts of weather stuffing around with wires, putting up posts and making structures.

Thanks for everyone's help who was involved. You know who you are.
