To be held at 6.30 pm, 7th Nov, The Loft, 4 Sir Peter Blake Parade, Bayswater, Northshore.

How do you know it's the start of the season? It's AGM time!!

This year we have decided to combine our Annual General Meeting and our start-of-the-season BBQ together in to one never to be forgotten event!

Once again, Wings and Waves have generously offered us the use of their facilities at The Loft. It's a great spot to have a beer and a bite while watching the sun go down.

We will kick off the evening with the AGM agenda and move on to the BBQ as soon as we have things wrapped up.

This year there are a couple of extra things your club committee would like you to have a say about. That is nominations for the:

  • "Flying Spirit" award for outstanding contribution by a club member to the activities of the club or in the sport of hang gliding or paragliding, and also the
  • "Duck" (or should that be the, "oh, *uck !!" award) for the most noteworthy flying related "activity" that none of us would be proud to talk about!!

See below for nomination details (click on "Read more") ...

Go on, have some fun.

The NZHGPA AGM will be held in Auckland on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2008 at the Parnell Trust venue centre commencing at 9.30am.

This is a great opportunity for AHGPA members to have their say regarding any matters they wish included in the meeting agendas as AGM remits or items of business for the Special Exec. meeting. Nominations for executives is also being accepted at this time.

AHGPC T-Shirt Design Contest

Leina's T-shirt designLeina's T-shirt designLet's design the AHGPC club T-shirt!
Your design should be a 3-colour (plus black) design. My daughter (a budding cartoonist) has draughted up a little design. Hopefully more members will post their designs. Perhaps our webmaster can gather them together and set up a facility whereby members can vote for the design of their choice, with the winning design being used for the new club T-shirt.
More information to follow at the SGM next Wednesday 18th June!

My daughter's tandem

It took a while for the conditions to be right, us to be home, Paddy to be available, and me to not flying myself. Her birthday was October last year and we flew on 4th May. Conditions were ideal and there were a quite a few pilots and other tandems happening at the same time. I was forunate as I got to go flying at the same time. Unfortunately I had my camera on too short a string and couldn't get my eye close to it to frame a shot. Still she had a great fly and really enjoyed getting `hands on' the control bar. It was fun and really easy I was informed.

Airspace Project

AirspaceAirspaceEver tried wrestling with a paper map in-flight? Ever wished you had spent longer looking at that airspace map before you took off an hour ago? These little frustrations may be a thing of the past - you can now take your airspace maps with you, packaged neatly into your map capable GPS.

I have spent the last few months building software that can convert the CAA's airspace definitions into digital maps that can be loaded into your GPS. These maps are available for download from this website are are free for all to use. The maps include CTAs, GAAs and MBZs across all of New Zealand, with other airspaces planned for future releases. Only Garmin GPSs are supported at present, but other GPSs and Google Earth are also on the todo list.

These maps will help you to be aware of the airspace you are flying in and to fly legally. I have used early versions of these maps in-flight during competitions and found them very useful. They tell you not only what airspace you are in, but also the location of nearby airspace boundaries allowing you to optimise your flight path.

Read more and get your downloads from the Airspace Project pages.

What an Easter!!

To all of you that came to the Easter at the Paeroas club fly in...You lucky people! To everyone else that missed it, sorry you couldn't make it. Hope to see you there next year!

Four days of back to back flying, a few 30k plus xc's, 30 odd tents in the squash club grounds,  and a   bbq for about 65 people are the basic stats, but that in no way conveys how well the event went off.

Easter at the Paeroas! 21st to the 24th of March UPDATE.

The club is inviting all members to come and join us for another flying extravaganza at the Paeroas. Launch was busy all day...great clouds!Launch was busy all day...great clouds!
Fly all day along the ridge or go over the back for some XC. We will have some fun competitions to add a bit of spice. Maybe a prize or two! If the conditions are not on for the Paeroas on the day we will look at going to the Kaimais, but we will be based at the Waikiti Thermal Pools at the base of the Paeroas for the duration. Last year was a great success with good weather and a great turn out from hangies and panties.
