Plans for flying at Kariotahi at end of December?

in

Fencepost forecasts moderate SW from the 27th onwards. Is anyone interested in Kariotahi over the next couple of days? Thursday 27th could be good later on in the day if the wind swings around to the west...

Track maintenance morning, Dec. Sat. 15th at Kariotahi

in

Please come along (with a shovel) to a track maintenance working bee next Saturday morning from about 9:00 a.m. at the track at Kariotahi (rain or shine). We'll meet at the base of the track. (It starts from near Chalet #18.) Please e-mail me if you think you will attend. We should all be finished by lunchtime, and will have a break down at Castaways afterwards. See you there!
Cheers,
John Burton

Jafaland Aviation

This is a story published several years ago but may be of historical interest.

"If I die I may not go to heaven,
Cause I don't know if they let cowboys in,
If they don't then let me go to Texas,
Cause Texas is the closest place I've been."

While my sentiments may not concur with this Texas crooner, that special aviation feeling is activated when surveying Auckland from cloudbase. Some may dismiss this as the incurable blood condition known as Bombay Blindness. But getting that thermal on the other side of Dome Valley and heading north never fails to please. By way of a trip down memory lane (older pilots must be regularly indulged in this respect) here is my list of memorable hang gliding cross country flights starting somewhere between the Brendrwyns and the Bombays.

AGM news.

Report on AGM.

Thank you to all who came to the AGM on the 22nd of this month. I hope you agree that it has been a busy year for the committee, and I'd like to thank all the committee members for their hard work. It certainly is a labour of love, so if you see any of them out there give them a pat on the back. (Cold refreshments are also accepted!)

WOF for Paragliders

Beginning of the season is the ideal time to check your equipment thoroughly. Quite a few pilots have completed their WOF already, but a few are still due to do so.
Please contact Reuben asap, Club Safety Officer, to arrange for a time to do your WOF check before within the next 2 weeks. Checks are free of charge if you do your bit.
Annual WOFs are a requirement by the NZHGPA and CAA.
Please phone Reuben or Eva on 09-446-0020 or 0274-727 013 or info@wingsandwaves.co.nz
