The Site Explorer Competition has finished for another year. This year was a hard-fought battle that went right to the last few days. Don Smith emerged the victor with an impressive 12 sites, narrowly beating out Johnny Hopper and kiwisurferboy on 11.

Poison to be laid on Awhitu Peninsula

 Hi all,

I've received notification of possum erradication on the Awhitu Peninsula from the lighthouse down to Kario. Attached is the poor notification notice. I have asked for an electronic copy of the map to be sent or posted online for viewing.

The poison will be laid between 15 July 2014 and 15 July 2015 so keep an eye out for it from then.

Auckland Airspace Review 2014

Following last nights Auckland Airspace review meeting, all looks good for our Moirs Hill GAA ‘active by request’.

This was our proposal for a new GAA to increase the allowable height above Moirs from 3500ft to 4500ft.

There was firm opposition from airways and commercial operators for ‘active by notification’.

Winter Kario fun ridge race and BBQ for HG and PG

I am organizing an AHGPC social event and BBQ at Karioitahi Beach this winter (May/June) when there is a fine ridge-soarable Saturday. (A wind strength of around 12 knots should be enough for both HG and PG pilots to participate.)

New Moirs Hill weather station now online

in

The club has recently purchased a new Holfuy solar-powered GSM weather station capable of providing real-time data that is accessible online. On Wednesday 12 March, myself, Rodger and Di removed the existing weather station at Moirs and installed the new station in its place (the intention is for the old station to be installed at another site that we currently don't have live weather data from, as it's still perfectly functional).

The data from this station is available online here: http://holfuy.hu/en/data.php?station=s111
