New Moirs Hill weather station now online

The club has recently purchased a new Holfuy solar-powered GSM weather station capable of providing real-time data that is accessible online. On Wednesday 12 March, myself, Rodger and Di removed the existing weather station at Moirs and installed the new station in its place (the intention is for the old station to be installed at another site that we currently don't have live weather data from, as it's still perfectly functional).

The data from this station is available online here:

Site Explorer Competition

This year's Site Explorer competition was a hard fought and close battle. The winner is Jeff Ripley (19) (no surprises there) just beating Tony Seaman (18). Notable mentions to Lisa Tobler (14) and Graham "El Presidente" Surrey (10).

The Competition leader board has been reset for the new season, so jump in and start logging flights. Rules are on the Competitions page.

IMPORTANT - Fort Takapuna and North Head sites under threat!

The Department of Conservation have recently released their draft Auckland Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) for consultation. This document sets forward the policies that DOC will use to administer the areas of land that they are responsible for in Auckland over the next 10 years, which includes popular flying sites at Moirs Hill, Fort Takapuna and North Head.

2012 AGM summary and minutes

On Wednesday 19 December a gaggle of pilots descended on Les Graham's house in Ellerslie for our club AGM and a chance to get together and catch-up over a BBQ and beer before Christmas.

Airspace files updated

A new set of airspace files have been published on the Airspace Downloads page. These have been updated to the latest version of the CAA Airspace Navigation Register (15th Nov 2012).

In this release new formats have been added. In addition to FA5 and KML we now have OpenAir and GPX formats, so the files can be loaded into much broader range of devices.

Also, in addition to CTA, GAA and MBZ the files now include CTRs.

Before using, please take note of the disclaimer on the Airspace Project page. If you discover any issues with these files please add a comment here so that it can be resolved.
