PGOpen next season.

in

The cut-off date for any bids to run a NZOpen in the next season is 21 June. Following the huge success of the Rotorua PGOpen last season I am keen to preserve our reputation by avoiding running it again this coming season. The only bid for a NZ based PGopen at present is from Wanaka. Mark hardman will be organising another Wanaka Festival at the beginning of January 2011.

The rules allow for one of the NZOpen comps to be held in Australia and several pilots are keen for that to be at Canungra.

Auckland WOF Dates for PGs

With the thermalling season starting, this is a good time to do our annual WOF checks for Auckland Club paragliders.

We encourage all pilots to do the WOF during the suggested dates, as you can help each other get through, be social and take the opportunity to learn lots about your equipment and how to look after it. These WOFs are free of charge.

Check out the Wings and Waves website for the dates.

Reserve throw evening

No sooner do we announce the AGM/Xmas BBQ/Award night than here here we are with another event!

On Sunday 15th of November, the AHGPC is having a social evening at Extreme Edge www.extremeedge.co.nz at 40 Morrin Road, Panmure from 6:30 till 9:00 p.m.

We will have a party area on a raised platform in the middle of the main climbing floor with enough space for the entire club. (It’s huge!). BYO chips, nibbles and soft drinks. You can also order Hell Pizza too. (We can get an order together for them to deliver.) Since this is a climbing zone, NO ALCOHOL. (Save it for the event on the 27th…) This will be a great night for the whole family!!

If you want to go rock climbing, the charge for one adult is $20. If we get 10 or more members who want to climb, we can get a 10% discount. (If 25 or more want to scale the walls, then we get 15% off.) If you think you will have a climb, then e-mail me so that I can get an idea of numbers.

John Burnett will be on hand to repack reserve parachutes. There will be a ceiling rope that you can clip your harness into, then swing out and deploy your reserve chute. John will be able to repack 4 chutes during the evening, for his usual professional fee. Please e-mail John to reserve a place to throw your reserve! I only have 4 spaces. If demand exceeds supply, I will ask Reuben if he will be willing to repack. Please note that you will have to pay John (or Reuben) to repack your reserve chute.

Since you don’t get a lot of practise at using this vital safety system, this is your opportunity. It might just save your life!

Annual General Meeting

Notice of Annual General Meeting

To be held at 6.30 pm, 27th November 2009,

The Loft, 4 Sir Peter Blake Parade, Bayswater, Northshore.

How do you know it’s the start of the season? It’s AGM time!!

This year we have decided to combine our Annual General Meeting and our Xmas BBQ together in to one never to be forgotten event! (Just like last year!!!).

Once again, Wings and Waves have generously offered us the use of their facilities at The Loft. It’s a great spot to have a beer and a bite while watching the sun go down.

We will kick off the evening with the AGM agenda and move on to the BBQ as soon as we have things wrapped up.

Please review the AHGPC Accounts beforehand as you will be asked to approve them at the AGM (click on the "Read more" link below and then look for the PDF document at the bottom of the page).

This year there are a couple of extra things your club committee would like you to have a say about. That is nominations for the…

  • “Flying Spirit” award for outstanding contribution by a club member to the activities of the club or in the sport of hang gliding or paragliding.
  • “Duck” (or should that be the, “oh, *uck !!” award) for the most noteworthy flying related “activity” that none of us would be proud to talk about!!
  •  Crash of the Year for …….. well, the name says it all.

Found this aged video I made of some flying I did with some friends in 2001. Captured off VHS tapes so not the best quality....

What an Easter!!

in

To all of you that came to the Easter at the Paeroas club fly in...You lucky people! To everyone else that missed it, sorry you couldn't make it. Hope to see you there next year!

Four days of back to back flying, a few 30k plus xc's, 30 odd tents in the squash club grounds,  and a   bbq for about 65 people are the basic stats, but that in no way conveys how well the event went off.

Easter at the Paeroas! 21st to the 24th of March UPDATE.

in

The club is inviting all members to come and join us for another flying extravaganza at the Paeroas. Launch was busy all day...great clouds!Launch was busy all day...great clouds!
Fly all day along the ridge or go over the back for some XC. We will have some fun competitions to add a bit of spice. Maybe a prize or two! If the conditions are not on for the Paeroas on the day we will look at going to the Kaimais, but we will be based at the Waikiti Thermal Pools at the base of the Paeroas for the duration. Last year was a great success with good weather and a great turn out from hangies and panties.

Waikato League comp

in

Don't forget the Waikato league is scheduled for this weekend 16, 17, 18 Feb. Weather is improving but final call on whether we proceed or go to reserve dates will be made on Thurs evening. Conditions in the Waikato have been great this season, pity the farmers, so make sure you are there. If you have PG2 and can do a few circles in the air then come and join in. It is the best way to improve your xc flying. You will need a GPS, reserve and UHF radio (sure you can borrow those). Peter Elliot has kindly stepped in as comp organiser since Wayne Roberts took a new job. We will try to get a GPS turnpoint file put on the web site this week so you can upload it yourselves and save some time on the first day. Watch this space. Cheers, Evan.
